OBCG prioritizes being Water Wise - Water Conservation Efforts are currently underway at the garden.

  • Garden Plot - Irrigation System Design

    more to come…

  • Rain Barrel Station

The two main rain water catchments at the garden have been remodeled and improved. They were a project of high priority for the past few years.. The five main reasons for priority were; accessibility of use, cleaning and monitoring, reducing mosquito breeding areas, educational opportunity, and safety.

The new systems take into account these improvements. They feature a First Flush, self cleaning filters, sealed tops and intakes, uniform water levels, improved end-use valves, and increased stability of foundations.

  • Learning from Experts

Water Wise Workshop: A BIG THANK YOU to Brett for organizing the Water Wise workshop last Wednesday and Brandan of Ryel Landscaping for sharing his expertise on installing irrigation systems and the importance of water conservation. Thanks to all the gardeners who showed up to learn about and support our community efforts! As we all know, the availability of water is becoming more and more scares, which in turn increases restrictions. OBCG is working diligently to be proactive with water conservation techniques. Patti composed a sample irrigation plan that shows the basics of installing a system in garden plots, with a materials list for getting started. Please stay posted for information on how OBCG continues to address and manage water use and restrictions in the garden.
